TITLE:                        MECHANIC

 

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

 

      Perform assigned inspection, preventive maintenance, repair, and equipment          operation to division vehicles in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner that is   compliant with local, state, and federal codes and regulations.

 

                                                 

QUALIFICATIONS:

           

The candidate should possess a high school diploma or GED and a comprehensive combination of knowledge, education, and experience in vehicle maintenance for gasoline and diesel powered vehicles, preferably in a school environment.  Candidate must possess, or be eligible and willing to possess, a valid commercial driver’s license and a vehicle inspection license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.  An independent work ethic, exemplary work attendance, and attention to detail are highly desirable.

 

REPORTS TO:          

 

            Division Maintenance Manager

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Observes and promotes safe work practices and procedures.

 

  1. Exhibits excellent customer service through attitude, demeanor, helpfulness, and responsiveness.

 

  1. Utilizes the vehicles service reports to record work needs/requests and to accurately denote work related accomplishments.

 

  1. Performs assigned vehicle inspection, preventive maintenance, repair and equipment operation in a thorough and competent manner.

 

  1. Practices efficient purchasing and inventory management with regard to parts and supplies.

 

  1. Maintains the confidentiality of student and employee information.

  1. Maintains work area and school vehicles in clean and orderly condition.

 

  1. Ensures compliance with the implementation of division policies regarding energy conservation, equipment life-cycle considerations, and equipment/parts uniformity.

 

  1. Completes assigned vehicle inspection, maintenance, repair, equipment operation, and recordkeeping in compliance with established local, state, and federal codes and regulations.

 

  1. Maintains after-hours availability for emergency response.

 

  1. Attends scheduled meetings and training sessions.

 

  1. Communicates effectively with the Division Maintenance Manager to keep the manager informed of operational issues and concerns.

 

  1. Performs duties and responsibilities in a timely and efficient manner.

 

  1. Recommends changes and improvements to the vehicle maintenance operation.

 

  1. Exhibits personal hygiene and grooming appropriate for the position.

 

  1. Demonstrates punctuality and regular attendance.

 

  1. Performs related duties as assigned by the Division Maintenance Manager.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

 

Twelve-month (12) contract, non- exempt FLSA status. Salary will be established annually by the School Board.

 

EVALUATION:

 

Job performance as Mechanic will be evaluated in accordance with School Board Policy and administrative regulations related to the evaluation of personnel.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

      Physical Demands:

                 

  • Ability to lift, push, or pull 50 pounds. Must be able to climb, bend, stoop, and reach.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to operate equipment related to buildings/ grounds, passenger vehicles, and school buses.
  • Ability to operate keyboards, calculators, and other similar devices.

 

It is also anticipated that some stress will be associated with this position primarily due to deadlines and irregular workflow.  It is necessary that the individual have the capacity to remain, calm, considerate, and tactful.
