JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: ART TEACHER
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
To provide art instruction at level that allows students to express themselves creatively in visual terms.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in art education, or related field.
- Be eligible for, or in possession of, a Virginia Teachers License with appropriate endorsement.
- Have knowledge of developmental theories in relation to art and cognition.
- Have demonstrated the professional and personal characteristics necessary for working in school setting.
REPORTS TO: Principal
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach knowledge and skills in art, including crafts, drawing, painting, lettering, design, commercial art, photography, art history, computer graphics, and/or three-dimensional art to students.
- Provide instruction by which students develop aesthetic concepts and appreciations and the ability to make qualitative and critical judgments about art.
- Provide differentiated instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil with varying intellectual and artistic abilities and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities.
- Establish and maintain a level of student behavior for an orderly and productive learning environment.
- Evaluate each student’s progress in performance and growth in knowledge, skill, and aesthetic understandings.
- Plan and display art exhibitions designed to exhibit student work for the school and community.
- Select and requisition books, instructional materials, tools, and other materials.
- Maintain inventory records of all art materials.
- Maintain professional competence through in-service educational activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities related to art education.
- Maintain open lines of communication with other professional staff members related to student performance.
- Communicate with parents, counselors, and classroom teachers to effectively report student progress.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the administration.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Ten-Month Contract, exempted FLSA status. Salary will be established annually by the School Board.
