TITLE:     CAFETERIA WORKER

 

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

 

Provide nutritious and appealing meals to students, teachers, other school personnel, and visitors.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

     

      The candidate must have an independent work ethic, good judgment capabilities, and an interest in nutrition and food service, a high school diploma or GED.

 

REPORTS TO:

    

            Cafeteria Site Manager, School Principal

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Observes and promotes safe work practices and procedures.

     

  2. Prepares of food according to standardized recipes and established food preparation procedures.

     

  3. Plans food production for the following day by preparing designated food items ahead of time.

     

  4. Plans and implements an acceptable placement of steam table pans on the cafeteria line prior to serving time.

     

  5. Transfers supplies and equipment between storage, work, serving, and cleaning areas in an appropriate manner.

     

  6. Stores food in designated areas, utilizing knowledge of temperature requirements and food spoilage guidelines.

     

  7. Stores food in refrigerators after covering, labeling, and dating; properly discards outdated food items.

     

  8. Courteously serves food with accuracy and speed while adhering to portion control, safety, and appearance standards.

     

  9. Maintains kitchen work areas, equipment, and utensils in clean and orderly condition.

     

  10. Sweeps and mops floors.

     

  11. Washes work tables, walls, and equipment as directed.

     

  12. Washes pots and pans according to established procedures.

  13. Scrapes food from dirty dishes and washes them in dishwasher following established procedures.

     

  14. Inspects cleaned dishes for cleanliness, chips, cracks, etc., and stores in the appropriate location.

     

  15. Accepts payment for food, using cash register or other means as directed by cafeteria manager.

     

  16. Follows trash separation and proper disposal procedures.     

     

  17. Reports needed supplies and equipment malfunction to cafeteria manager.  

     

  18. Follows established sanitary techniques while preparing and serving food and while handling clean utensils.

     

  19. Attends in-service training sessions to develop and improve knowledge and skills.

     

  20. Performs job activities in a timely and efficient manner and displays a willingness to work beyond the end of the contract work time as the infrequent need arises.

     

  21. Recommends changes and improvements regarding his/her job; accepts changes readily.

     

  22. Adheres to uniform and personal hygiene requirements.

     

  23. Prepares and serves banquet and special function meals as required.

     

  24. Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities.

     

  25. Attends all scheduled in-services and training.

     

  26. Demonstrates punctuality and regular attendance.

     

  27. Follows established School Board policies and regulations.

     

  28.     TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

     

    10 month contract, non-exempted FLSA status.  Salary will be established annually by the School Board. 

     

    EVALUATION:

     

                Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with School Board Policy,

                administrative regulations and evaluation of personnel.

     

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

     

                Physical Demands:

                Ability to lift, push or pull 25 pounds.  Must be able to climb, bend, stoop and reach.

                Ability to work in confined spaces required. 

                Required to work irregular hours (night, weekend, holiday and summer audits)

     

    It is also anticipated that some stress will be associated with this position primarily due to deadlines and irregular workflow.  It is necessary that the individual have the capacity to remain calm, considerate, and tactful.
