TITLE:    BUS ATTENDANT

 

 QUALIFICATIONS:

 

                         Job related experience is desired.

 

 CLEARANCES:

 

                            Blood Borne Pathogen Certificate

 

                            Sexual Harassment Certificate

 

 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS:

 

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and or pulling; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity.  The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.  There will be frequent walking, standing, sitting, stooping, and lifting up to approximately 60 pounds of equipment, materials, and/or students.

PERFORMANCEPONSIBILITIES:

 

 Ability to work with a wide diversity of individuals

 

 Applies proper physical restraint techniques when necessary for the purpose of protecting the students and staff

 

Assist special education students and other passengers for the purpose of providing a safe and comfortable trip and a safe loading and unloading from buses during normal transport and emergency situations.

 

Attends transportation meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. for the purpose of gathering information required to perform job functions.

 

Completes a walk-through (e.g. clothing, bags, prescriptions, etc.) for the purpose of checking for students or articles left behind at the end of each trip.

 

Instructs students for the purpose of enforcing rules/regulations and maintaining student safety and well-being.  Maintains knowledge of current bus route for the purpose of taking over if the regular driver is sick or the substitute driver needs directions.

 

Monitors students with special needs until release to teacher, instructional assistant, parent, etc. for the purpose of ensuring that safe transportation of all passengers.

 

Possesses knowledge of individual student’s  needs , their behavior plans, medical concerns and transportation plans for the purpose of ensuring students’ needs are met and students are maintained in a safe environment.

 

Prepares reports (e.g. incident reports, passenger misconduct, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities.

 

Reports observations and/or incidents (e.g. discipline, accidents, inappropriate social behavior, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate personnel for their action.

 

Secures students and/or their equipment (e.g. restraints, wheel chair tie downs, seat belts, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safety and well-being of students.

 

Adheres to safety practices.

 

Prepares and maintains accurate records.

 

Operates equipment used in transporting special needs students.

 

Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

 

 Ten–month (10) contract, non –exempted FLSA status. Salary will be established annually by the School Board.

 

 

 

EVALUATION:

 

 Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with School Board Policy and administrative regulations on evaluations of classified personnel.
