JOB DESCRIPTION

 

TITLE:             ART TEACHER

 

PRIMARY FUNCTION: 

 

To provide art instruction at level that allows students to express themselves creatively in visual terms.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

 

  1. Hold a Bachelor’s degree in art education, or related field.
  2. Be eligible for, or in possession of, a Virginia Teachers License with appropriate endorsement.
  3. Have knowledge of developmental theories in relation to art and cognition.
  4. Have demonstrated the professional and personal characteristics necessary for working in school setting.

 

REPORTS TO:             Principal

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Teach knowledge and skills in art, including crafts, drawing, painting, lettering, design, commercial art, photography, art history, computer graphics, and/or three-dimensional art to students.
  2. Provide instruction by which students develop aesthetic concepts and appreciations and the ability to make qualitative and critical judgments about art.
  3. Provide differentiated instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil with varying intellectual and artistic abilities and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities.
  4. Establish and maintain a level of student behavior for an orderly and productive learning environment.
  5. Evaluate each student’s progress in performance and growth in knowledge, skill, and aesthetic understandings.
  6. Plan and display art exhibitions designed to exhibit student work for the school and community.
  7. Select and requisition books, instructional materials, tools, and other materials.
  8. Maintain inventory records of all art materials.
  9. Maintain professional competence through in-service educational activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities related to art education.
  10. Maintain open lines of communication with other professional staff members related to student performance.
  11. Communicate with parents, counselors, and classroom teachers to effectively report student progress.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned by the administration.

 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

 

Ten-Month Contract, exempted FLSA status. Salary will be established annually by the School Board.
